While writing this letter to the Colossians, St Paul is also in prison. He continues to expound on many of the rich themes he sets forth in his letter to the Philippians and the Ephesians. But the Apostle begins with a powerful prayer or hymn in praise of the Lordship of Jesus Christ over all of creation. That sets the tone for this richly spiritual letter wherein St Paul teaches about the life of the believer after Baptism as a call to continual conversion. To be a Christians, the Apostle insists, should infuse every area of the life of a Christian believer including family life, approach to work, participation in civil society. Jesus is the Lord of His Church, and the Church is called to bring the world under His Lordship.
