The next letter, or epistle, in the New Testament Canon, following Philemon, is the Letter to the Hebrews. It was widely accepted as a letter written by St Paul for centuries by many early Church fathers. But some, then and now, believe it was written by one of his disciples and students. It is written to a Jewish Christian community. This is a beautiful and theologically brilliant letter which has as its main theme that the New Law, revealed in Jesus Christ, is the perfection and fulfillment of the Old Law. The letter centers on Jesus Christ, Tue God and True Man, the High Priest of the New Law, the Incarnate Word. The author makes it eminently clear that Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of all the prophecies of the Hebrew Scriptures and the fullest revelation of the Father.
