Immediately following the letters to the early Christian communities, we find the letters which the Apostle Paul wrote to particular people. The letter bears their name. The two letters to Timothy and the letter to Titus have been called “”pastoral epistles”” since the 18th century. Timothy and Titus were co-workers of St Paul. Timothy was placed over the Church in Ephesus and Titus over the Church in Crete. The first letter, St Paul defends sound doctrine and emphasizes the need for orthodoxy (right doctrine) and orthopraxy (right practice).¬† He has a warm personal relationship with Timothy, and it comes through in this beautiful letter.
